La Punta, Zicatela or Rinconada?

Compare the three common bases by beach use, evenings, terrain and transport.

Short answer

Start with the trip, not the postcard

La Punta is the social café base, Zicatela the surf-and-nightlife strip, and Rinconada the practical restaurant-and-small-bay compromise.

Choose the evening, then the beach

Compare the same dinner and return in all three areas before booking.

The places to compare

01

La Punta

Best fit
Sunset, cafés and a lively traveller scene.
Trade-off
Can be noisy and the exact street changes convenience.
Move smart
Stay within the evening radius you want to walk.

02

Zicatela

Best fit
Surf-focused days and active nights.
Trade-off
Less suitable when calm-water swimming is the main goal.
Move smart
Choose a section near the breaks or venues you will use.

03

Rinconada

Best fit
Food choice and access toward Carrizalillo and nearby bays.
Trade-off
Not every property is an easy beach walk because of slopes and steps.
Move smart
Map the exact route in daylight before booking.

Compare the same ordinary evening in all three areas

Imagine finishing an activity, getting dinner and returning to the room. La Punta, the Zicatela strip and Rinconada can make that evening feel different even within one destination. Compare the actual street, the activity pickup and the beach entrance, not just the area's reputation. Ask whether music or road noise reaches your room and what transport you need between areas. Rinconada is not a promise of step-free Carrizalillo access, and a surf-led Zicatela location is not automatically suitable for swimming.

A reason to linger

Let the season shape your stay

Choose the trip first, then match the address to the event. A recurring festival is not a confirmed programme for your dates.

Next programme not confirmed

Puerto Escondido · Fiestas de Noviembre

November · next edition's dates and venues to be checked

The municipality's linked announcement describes 2025, not a confirmed 2026 programme.

Choose the event venue before the beach address. Compare La Punta, Zicatela and Rinconada for the nights between activities; ask the property about room noise and arrange a return independently of any event listing.

Before you commit
  • Verify the edition, venue and admission terms with the organiser before booking non-refundable travel.
  • Compare the exact room, cancellation terms and the return journey after the event.
  • Leave the arrival or transfer day free of an essential event; a festival listing is not a transport guarantee.

Decision rules

Use these to break a tie

  1. Do not call the three areas interchangeable.
  2. A beach view does not prove safe water access.
  3. Choose a base that works after sunset.

Before you book

Three checks

  • Check current beach conditions.
  • Read noise comments for the exact block.
  • Confirm taxi availability and realistic walking routes.
